Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 returns for 2012

The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 has just debuted at the 2011 New York Auto Show. The fastest Jeep ever built is based on the all-new 2011 Grand Cherokee that was released last year, and the SRT8 version seemed inevitable, even with fears of cancellation during Chrysler’s brief bankruptcy.

The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee is now powered by a 465 hp 6.4-litre Hemi V8 with 630 Nm of torque. Jeep claims the new SRT8 gets 13% better fuel economy than its predecessor with the help of a new active exhaust system that lets Chrysler’s cylinder-deactivating system to operate over a wider RPM band, leading to a claimed range of over 700 km on a single tank of petrol.

As for performance, the Grand Cherokee SRT can now do the 0-100 kph run in a claimed 5 seconds, with a top speed limited to 248 kph. Chrysler also claims the new Grand Cherokee SRT8 will manage a 0.90g skidpad figure, similar to many sports cars, with Brembo brakes to match.

At this point, it also becomes a bit obvious that this all-wheel-drive Jeep loses its offroad capabilities again. But it gains a new SRT-tuned adaptive damping suspension managed by the new Jeep Selec-Track system that interacts with several different systems, including stability control, adaptive damping, transmission shift strategy, transfer case torque proportioning and Electronic Limited Slip Differential performance. It also rides on 20-inch alloy wheels with 295/45ZR20 Pirelli PZero run-flat tyres

Inside, standard features include a DVD and MP3-capable stereo, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and sports seats, with optionals such as a 19-speaker 825-watt Harmann-Kardon stereo with a 10-inch subwoofer, a dual-panel tinted sunroof and a power liftgate.

Expect the popular Jeep SRT8 to return to roads of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries by the end of this year.

  1. That looks bad ass…..

  2. I would personally want it to sound the same, or even better, as the preceding model did when one stamped on the accelerator:)

  3. looks humongous ,i miss the old one

  4. It looks good, really good, but I think the front bumper is a little too big and too low contrasted with the rear bumper… I hope they also fitted it with softer suspension because the old one was very hard…

  5. They should have kept the center dual exhaust design as the previous model. It really distinguished the normal jeeps from the SRTs. This one looks boring from the back.

  6. soooooooo sexy but dont like wheels, still mommy can i have 1

  7. They changed the center exhausts (which i thought looked awesome!) to accomodate a tow hook to tow stuff..

That is correct. The Americans are obsessed with towing capacities and such, even if most don’t have anything to tow.

  8. Guys small correction just saw the launch video and the brand manager said that the torque is the same as the HP not 630 Nm

  9. and is it just me or has any one noticed that if you squint at the Cherokee from its side pose, it looks identical to BMW X5..!!:)

  10. X5M and cayanne turbo killer….looks really beautiful…

  11. I wonder wat happened to the Bowler Nemesis EXR…

  12. whoaaaaaaa….now thats another reason as to why srt is good

  13. I luv it, wow…my next SUV in 2012
