Toyota GR GT, GR GT3 and Lexus LFA Concept Debut as New Flagship Performance Models

Toyota Gazoo Racing and Lexus have officially unveiled three all-new performance flagships: the Toyota GR GT, Toyota GR GT3, and the Lexus LFA Concept, marking a major moment for both brands as they push forward with next-generation sports-car development.

The world premiere, held in Japan, introduces models built under the philosophy of “Toyota’s Shikinen Sengu”, a concept inspired by the Japanese tradition of rebuilding shrines every few decades to preserve craftsmanship. In the same spirit, Toyota aims to pass core car-making skills and performance engineering to the next generation.

GR GT: The New Toyota Flagship

Developed with direct input from Toyota Chairman and master driver Akio Toyoda (a.k.a. “Morizo”), the GR GT serves as the brand’s new halo sports car.

Key highlights include:

  • Front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout

  • Toyota’s first all-aluminium body frame for lighter weight and higher rigidity

  • A hybrid powertrain combining a newly developed 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor

  • System output of 650+ PS and 850+ Nm torque

  • Rear transaxle with 8-speed automatic and a mechanical LSD

The car places aerodynamics, driving position, and driver feel at the centre of its development, a tradition carried over from iconic Toyota performance models.

GR GT3: FIA-Spec Race Car for Global Competition

Based on the GR GT, the new GR GT3 is Toyota’s full-fledged GT3-category contender.

The concept aims to prove that battery-electric sports cars can exceed driver expectations, mixing advanced aerodynamics, lightweight design, and craftsmanship honed across years of Lexus performance development.
