Tuner company Hennessey has released the Venom GT. It combines British engineering with American muscle as it looks like the Lotus Elise and has a highly tuned Corvette ZR1 engine, giving it the best of both worlds.
The U.S. NHTSA safety agency has announced the recall of 4,038 units of the 2010 Nissan Pathfinder and Xterra models due to defective fasteners securing the passenger front airbag module and the steering shaft positioning bracket.
While the Ford Focus is a bit of a rental-fleet joke in the Middle East, the hatchback is rather popular in Europe, with various versions that even include the hot 305 hp Ford Focus RS hatchback. While an all-new Focus will hit the streets for the 2012 model year, the current model is getting one final hurrah in Europe in the form of the ridiculous Ford Focus RS500.
Cadillac has unveiled the 2011 CTS-V Sport Wagon “show car” for the 2010 New York Auto Show, foreshadowing the latest addition to its V-Series performance line. It combines the front half of a CTS-V Sport Sedan with the rear half of a CTS Sport Wagon.
General Motors issued a recall and stop-sale on heavy-duty van models such as the 2010 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans due to a problem with the alternator that could potentially lead to a fire. With a panicky vibe, GM advises owners to stop driving the vehicles immediately, adding that vehicles should be parked away from buildings and vehicles, and owners should disconnect both battery cables. Vehicles should not be used until GM has come up with a fix for the problem.
Ford Motor Company has announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell Swedish subsidiary Volvo Car Corporation and related assets to the Chinese Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Company Limited, maker of Geely automobiles. The sale is expected to close in the third quarter of 2010, and is subject to customary closing conditions, including receipt of applicable regulatory approvals.
The Chevrolet Cruze is yet another product that is part of General Motors’ competitively-revamped product line. With so much riding on it, we were hoping we had finally found something to topple the Honda Civic. Unfortunately, after our tests, the current Civic remains the “best” compact car of its time. However, the Korean-built Cruze is a much more palatable proposition, considering its base price undercuts that of the Civic by more than 25% in the UAE!
Following the Asian recall, General Motors in the Middle East will conduct a recall of Chevrolet Captiva and Cruze as well as GMC Terrain vehicles, all built at the GM Daewoo factory in Korea.
General Motors is recalling 58,696 vehicles in South Korea as part of a safety recall. Models include the Korean-market versions of the Chevrolet Captiva crossover and the Chevrolet Cruze sedan, as well as the Opel Antara and possibly the 2009 GMC Terrain.
The American-built Honda Odyssey is turning out to be rather problematic, as a U.S. recall for brakes is issued. Also on the recall path is the American-built Mitsubishi Galant.
