2018 Toyota Century reborn for another generation

It isn’t that rare in the automotive world for a car to go on sale for a very long period of time. The Land Rover Defender remained on sale, unchanged, for 67 years before the plug was pulled on it in 2016. The Toyota Century is a car more or less like the Defender. The second-generation one that ended production in early 2017 still flaunted the same classic design language that it debuted with in 1967. And now, there is a new one. But unlike the Defender, the new Toyota Century is equipped with modern age creature comforts that help it compete against other modern offerings.

The FJ Cruiser has been around for a decade now. The quirky body and the out-of-the-box retro styling has given it a special place in the market (and our garage). After two false alarms when the FJ exited the US and Australian markets in 2014 and 2016 respectively, it is really time to say goodbye as Toyota has prepared a fitting farewell called the FJ Cruiser Final Edition for the Japanese market only.

We even took it off-road, where it did phenomenally well (despite the confused thumb gestures by our offroad monkey Vivek “Payero” Menon in the photo above). But it’s currently facing a minor (or major, depending on how you look at it) concerning the exterior trim.
