Many folks will fondly remember the Xterra. It debuted as a sister model to the older body-on-frame Pathfinder, meant to be a playful more-capable alternative to its sibling, and taking on the Jeep Wrangler and the Toyota FJ Cruiser. It came in bright paintjobs and was a smaller vehicle than the Pathfinder, although both were based on versions of the Nissan pickup platform. And then the Xterra was cancelled a few years ago, for various reasons. It’s back now, as a completely different beast with a hyphen in its name.

2019 Nissan Terra coming to UAE & GCC soon, replacing XTerra

As Nissan continues to go around Asia to introduce their new Terra body-on-frame SUV (the latest being in China), it has now been confirmed by Nissan Middle East that it is also coming to the UAE, KSA and other GCC markets as a replacement of the long-discontinued XTerra. Called the Nissan Terra, this SUV is built on a chassis shared with the Nissan Navara, and of course the cut-rate Mercedes X-Class. The left-hand-drive version of this seven-seat SUV will be launched publicly at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show.

Nissan Xterra discontinued last year, new Navara-based one in 2017

If you hadn’t noticed, the Nissan Xterra was discontinued in August last year, with final stocks selling out by the first few months of this year. While the fate of the true body-on-frame 4×4 was up in the air, we can now confirm via sources that a new model is in development for release sometime in 2017. There is even a prototype running in Australia, with a Pathfinder Classic body.

The fifth Xplore UAE, an annual off-road event organised by local Nissan dealer Arabian Automobiles in association with ENOC Lubricants, clinched the Guinness World Record title for the longest desert convoy of off-road vehicles. The March event, which attracted the largest number of participants in its history, also raised Dhs 50,000 for the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre.

There are a lot of stereotypes floating around about “which is the best offroader” when it comes to dune-bashing. Many automatically say “Toyota Land Cruiser” or “Nissan Patrol”, with a few naive ones even adding in “Jeep Wrangler” and “Land Rover Defender”, generally by people who’ve never been off-road in anything more than a desert-safari ride. Nissan recalling Armada, Pathfinder, Xterra & QX56


An Associated Press news report states that Nissan will recall 48,700 truck-based SUV models for a suspension problem that could lead to a harsh ride. The recall, which is slated to begin by next week, includes the 2010 model-years of the Nissan Titan pickup, Pathfinder, Armada and Xterra, as well as the Armada-based Infiniti QX56.
