Maruti-Suzuki has officially unveiled an extended version of the current Swift in India, named Ertiga. The Suzuki Ertiga now joins the range along with the Swift hatchback and Dzire sedan in the subcontinent.
Suzuki has unveiled a concept SUV that hints at a future model. Dubbed the XA-Alpha concept, the design was unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.
Al Rostamani Trading Company, the sole distributor of Suzuki in the UAE has quietly launched their sporty midsize sedan, the new Kizashi, as a 2012 model in its showrooms. The much-hyped Suzuki Kizashi had been launched in Oman almost a year back and 6 months ago in Saudi Arabia.
Recalls are boring news. They’re in fact so boring that we only cover them once in a while now. The number of recalls per month has actually reduced since the last time we did a rundown, by about 35%. Of course, the general media still chooses to sensationalise some recalls more than others, especially anything to do with Toyota. In the past two months, there have been recalls by Lexus, Land Rover, General Motors, Ford, Honda, Suzuki, Chrysler, Saab and even Mazda, the last of which is a hilarious one.
The recalls were piling in hard and fast during this year. While we kept up with most of the ones which could’ve potentially affected car owners in the Middle East, we simply stopped keeping track around two months ago, because it became interminably boring writing up repetitive “recall” stories. However, we have a duty to at least highlight the ones which could matter, so here is a rundown of all the recalls in the last 60 days, most issued in the U.S. but which may also affect some GCC-spec cars. Piloting a heavily-modified 2010 Suzuki Kizashi, dubbed the Bonneville Special, editors for proper U.S. car magazine Road & Track drove it to a speed of 325.95 kph at this year’s Bonneville Speed Week at the U.S. Bonneville Salt Flats. Thanks to this publicity stunt, the barely-stock Bonneville Kizashi now hols the record for “Land Speed Record for the Blown Gas Coupe Category”, if that means anything. That’s Bonneville for you.
Rental firm Europcar in Oman recently took delivery of a fleet of the all-new 2011 Suzuki Kizashi “Deluxe” model from Moosa Abdul Rahman Hassan, the Omani Suzuki dealer. Unless other dealers around the GCC are keeping quiet about it, we’d say Oman is the first country in the Middle East to receive the Kizashi.
Suzuki has released first information and pictures of the redesigned 2011 Suzuki Swift. Looking more like a minor facelift than a major update, the new model is 9 cm longer with the wheelbase extended by 5 cm, with a new engine on offer.
