Mazda have revealed a special edition for the MX-5 Miata at the Chicago Auto Show to celebrate 900,000 units being produced. It is an upgraded version of the top model, the Grand Touring. Only 750 units will be made.
The 2011 Ford Mustang GT, the 2010 Dodge Challenger and the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS all have three things in common. All three are retro-styled Americans, all three are V8-powered muscle cars, and all three have more than 400 horses. Each. This comparo has been a long time coming. Everyone else has already done their armchair evaluations, simply comparing manufacturer figures, snapping a few photos and calling it a day. It took us a spread of six months to be able to drive all three of these direct competitors. We have neither the time nor the resources to pull in all three cars together.
ABT is offering a performance package for the 2011 Audi A7 Sportback. The package includes facial and engine upgrades on both the 3.0-litre petrol and diesel engines.
Land Rover revealed details of the 2011 Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Edition and plans to show it off at the Geneva Auto Show. The model will feature an upgraded handcrafted interior. Only 500 units will be sold worldwide.
Volkswagen revealed the 2012 Jetta GLI at the Chicago Auto Show. It is slightly longer than the previous Jetta and will have the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine.
Mercedes-Benz has released details of the 2012 C-Class Coupe and it will debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March. This is a completely new model, as there was no coupe earlier in the C-Class line-up, although it is replacing the CLK-Class. Two models have been revealed, the C250 and the C350.
Al-Futtaim Motors, the exclusive distributor for Lexus in the UAE, has announced that the Lexus LFA supercar will be displayed in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from the 9th to the 19th of February this year. The “most powerful road-legal Lexus ever” is being put on show to give the poor masses a chance to see the LFA from a bit closer, but without touching, as the car will be sold by invitation only.
Dodge has revealed the 2011 Durango Heat in the 2011 Chicago Auto Show. It is based on the Durango R/T. The R/T gets a V8 engine and the Heat is powered by a V6. Both pretty much look the same.
If you were in the market for a compact European yuppy-mobile, you might want to wait until the 2012 Kia Rio hits the road by winter. Because it is, as with recent Kia products, a stunner, at least in hatchback form anyway.
The 2011 Gulf Bike Week is underway at the Dubai Festival City. Set to run from February 10th to the 12th, it is running alongside a big pop concert. Featured are exhibition halls displaying hundreds of motorcycles from various manufacturers, a bike stunt show, and a gathering spot for local bikers to display their personal motorcycles. Harley-Davidson also used the opportunity to announce that they’ve opened a Middle East office in the UAE.
