GMC Sierra EV

2024 GMC Sierra EV debuts to electrify the truck industry even further

American electric trucks are pioneering a segment and other manufacturers are yet to catch up. After the Hummer EV, Rivian R1T, Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevy Silverado EV, and still-not-on-sale Tesla Cybertruck, we have a new entrant, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV. This new EV on the block debuts only in its fully loaded Denali trim with 754 horses available.

Built on the same bones as the Chevy Silverado EV, the Sierra EV uses the brand’s Ultium platform. This allows a massive battery pack to be integrated into the structure of the vehicle, lending the big truck a healthy range of 640 km per charge. To juice up this battery, it gets up to 350 kW fast-charging capability with 800V DC. As per GM, this can add up to 160 km of range in just 10 minutes. The Sierra EV being a work truck, this battery pack can also power your home for 21 days, provided you use only the “essential necessities.”

Design

The GMC Sierra EV looks like a Sierra. While you have radical redesigns like the Rivian R1T & the Canoo truck, conventional truck manufacturers have stuck to the tried, tested, and loved designs. Hence the Sierra EV gets a proper truck design with its EV elements. It is only available as a crew cab, at least for now, with a bed that is just a tad shorter than 6 feet. There is the clever MultiPro tailgate that can fold down to carve out more space. A midgate can also fold down to borrow some space from the interior for longer luggage.

Interior

Inside the truck, it’s all luxury, as it is the fully kitted-out Denali trim. A 16.8-inch infotainment screen dominates the dashboard, which itself is swathed in premium materials like wood and aluminium. The feature list is huge, too and includes Super Cruise, a panoramic sunroof, a heads-up display, a keyless starting system, nothing less than 14 cameras, Bose sound system, and more.

Being a truck, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV is made to do some serious work. A Power Station Pro feature allows the customers to power their tools at a work location through 10 different outlets. You can also charge another EV with it.

GMC Sierra EV performance

Being an EV, the new electric Sierra has some big numbers under its belt. The peak power output is 754 hp, while the torque is rated at 1064 Nm. It features a dual-motor configuration that always powers all four wheels. Armed with all this, the GMC Sierra EV can hit 100 kph from nought in just above 4.7 seconds.

It can go sideways too. Borrowed from the larger Hummer EV, four-wheel steering with a crabwalk feature allows the Sierra to move diagonally. Air ride suspension is also present, allowing the driver to lift or lower the truck by 2 inches. For those who are interested in towing heavy stuff, the Sierra EV can handle that too. It can tow up to 4,300 kgs. If you want to throw something on the bed of this truck, it can take up to 560 kg.

GMC Sierra EV price

Another big number in the 2024 GMC Sierra EV’s brochure is its price. Being only offered in the Denali Edition 1 trim, the Sierra EV now costs a starting price of $108,965 (AED 400,000+). This is expensive, yes. But cheaper Sierra models will come down the line in the form of Sierra EV AT4, Elevation, and more. GM says that there will be Sierra EV models starting from the range of $50,000 (AED 183,000). But what will they offer? We will have to wait and see.
