After qualifying at the head of the class, Sebastian Vettel readily launched his Red Bull RB5 into the lead of the 2009 British F1 Grand Prix. In a dominant drive that highlighted Red Bull Renault’s strength on high-speed circuits, Vettel pulled away from Rubens Barrichello’s Brawn GP car by as much as a second per lap in a series of quick moves, and never looked even close to being challenged.
The Formula One Teams’ Association, FOTA, has officially announced that it is setting up a breakaway championship, during a press conference on June 19. Following a four-hour meeting, the eight FOTA members that includes Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, BMW Sauber, Toyota, Brawn, Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso, said they had grown frustrated with the FIA’s stance on new rules for 2010, and had no choice but to create their own series.

Jensen, the current points leader, grabbed the lead at the start, eased quickly away from Brawn team mate Rubens Barrichello, and ran home to a comfortable victory.

Brawn GP’s Jenson Button made it two wins in a row after he won the rain-shortened 2009 Malaysian Grand Prix. A rain storm caused the race to be red-flagged, and then there was not enough daylight left to allow it to continue. Button found out he was the winner while sitting in the car on the grid for a restart that never came. But the top eight finishers only received half points.
Jenson Button won the season-opening 2009 Australian Grand Prix on the 29th of March, giving all-new Brawn GP a victory in its first ever Formula One race.
