Mercedes-Benz rarely has cars available for testing. But when they do, they are usually very generous with the amount of time we get to keep the car. Indeed, we got to keep this black 2009 Mercedes-Benz CLC 230 for nearly a week. What most don’t realise is that a longer test drive is enough to change our minds about a particular car. Most car companies here stupidly think that giving us cars for longer will expose more faults. On the contrary, we had negative preconceptions about the CLC since the day it was launched. But driving around in one for so many days restored our faith in Mercedes-Benz.

After qualifying at the head of the class, Sebastian Vettel readily launched his Red Bull RB5 into the lead of the 2009 British F1 Grand Prix. In a dominant drive that highlighted Red Bull Renault’s strength on high-speed circuits, Vettel pulled away from Rubens Barrichello’s Brawn GP car by as much as a second per lap in a series of quick moves, and never looked even close to being challenged.

American tuner Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) does not have the best of reputations in the United States, but whatever they do create is always noteworthy. Already busy developing a 705 hp version of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro with a modified Corvette ZR1 engine, which they plan to launch in early 2010, Hennessey is currently launching a simpler 562 hp Camaro, calling it the HPE550.

Mugen, Honda’s official aftermarket arm, already has their own hyper-tuned version of the Japanese-market Honda Civic Type-R sedan. Interestingly, Europe has its own version of the Civic Type-R, based on the all-show-no-go 3-door Euro-Civic hatchback with non-independent rear suspension. The European Civic Type-R is imported to Japan in limited numbers, and this was enough reason for Mugen to offer a body kit for it.
