The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 has just debuted at the 2011 New York Auto Show. The fastest Jeep ever built is based on the all-new 2011 Grand Cherokee that was released last year, and the SRT8 version seemed inevitable, even with fears of cancellation during Chrysler’s brief bankruptcy.
The launch edition of the Middle East Motor Tuning Show, held alongside the 2010 Sharjah Auto Show in October last year was considered a big success. Toyota has already confirmed that the FT-86 sports car, the spiritual successor to the 1980s “AE86” Corolla, is set for production. This is the third concept to show off the car, a bit different than before and closer to the actual version that will hit showrooms in late 2012 as a 2013 model.
Here is a quick rundown of all the cars displayed at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland, possibly the biggest auto show in Europe. New models include the Lamborghini Aventador, Jaguar XKR-S, Hyundai i40, Ferrari FF and Pagani Huayra. The sizeable number of concepts include the Infiniti Etherea, EDAG Light Car Sharing Concept, Rinspeed Bamboo, Mazda Minagi, Alfa Romeo 4C and the latest iteration of the Toyota FT-86 Concept.
The 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. Apparently named after a courageous bull, the light weight and new engine of the all-wheel drive Aventador will be more powerful and fuel-efficient than the Murcielago, the model its replacing.
Aston Martin’s range just got bigger. They have just launched the 2012 Aston Martin Virage Coupe and Virage Volante at the Geneva Motor Show. This takes its place in the Aston Martin sporting GT family between the DBS and DB9, although it looks like they designed it by modifying a picture of a DB9 on Photoshop.
One has to wonder what goes on in the minds of the Dutch. Having restarted the Spyker nameplate, its owners went ahead and created a few exotic cars that never sold well, started an F1 team that flopped, and then bought an ailing Swedish carmaker that General Motors desperately wanted to get rid of. They’ve launched new Saab models, including the 9-4X and the 9-5 designed under GM, as well as revealing a 9-3 facelift and a 9-5 wagon just today, both while announcing that they’ve sold their loss-making Spyker sports-car business to someone else!
The Volkswagen Golf Cabrio, a fabulous gay icon since 1979, was cancelled back in 2002 to the dismay of pink-wearing men and women around the Western world. After years enduring the VW Eos with the folding hard-top, fangirls can rejoice as the real Golf Cabrio is back for 2012.
Volkswagen as released new images of the upcoming facelifted 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan. The model hasn’t received any new exterior changes since its debut way back in 2007, and this redesign can be treated as a mid-cycle refresh.
Mazda has revealed the 2012 Mazda 3. It gets a minor facelift, but the engine and transmission will be new, which will help gain better fuel efficiency numbers, but at the same time produce better low and mid-range torque.
