We stopped reporting on recalls last March because, firstly, it’s boring news, and secondly, there’s just too many of them. Most publicised recalls are issued according the U.S. NHTSA agency. But we’ve decided to list all the recalls since then, just to make sure we’ve covered them, and potential buyers of these cars can get the whole story, so here goes.
It’s rather ironic that anyone who’s been to the Sub-continent, or even maybe Europe, has some sort of experience with Compressed-Natural-Gas cars. And yet, we being the largest automotive guide in the GCC, had never driven a CNG-powered car before. The fact that we are in the GCC might be the reason. But there is a real push by certain entities to bring in vehicles with cleaner emissions here, and Volkswagen threw their hat in the ring with the VW Passat Ecofuel, a car that is already offered in Europe, which can run on both natural gas and petrol.
So far, all sorts of magical performance figures were being thrown around for the upcoming Toyota 86 and its clone, the Subaru BRZ. Most other publications had only driven the car briefly. Now a U.S. automotive website has put the Subaru BRZ to the test, properly.
We’ve had our V6-powered 2012 Volkswagen Passat CC for more than four months now. But it’s only today that we finally decided to take it out for a 0-100 kph flog. Truth be told, we always thought the CC was quick, but not that quick. But we were totally flabbergasted when the timings came in, so much so that we couldn’t wait to share it.
Truth be told, we feel Chrysler is arguably the best American carmaker right now, if only because they keep sticking a big V8 into half the cars they make. And those cars are some of the best in their segments, with the only competition coming from Ford in terms of pure quality and engineering, while the third one in the Big Three is still chasing short-term profits by peddling Daewoos. The Chrysler 300C, along with its Dodge cousin, is probably the last truly-American full-size rear-wheel-drive V8 barge still in production. And it’s better than ever.
We’ve answered this question a million times before, but it is time to permanently settle this matter, so that if we are bothered by armchair-racers in the future, we can just point to this page.
It’s been more than two months now since we bought our 2007 Honda S2000. I’d like to reiterate that I hate soft-top sports cars, but Honda chose to make one of their best cars ever as a convertible, and we have to live with it. We did hear that they offered a hard-top in Western markets when the car was new, so we went to look for one.
This is tuner-outfit Raw Performance’s Honda S2000 engine-swapped with a modified “2JZ” motor, racing against a Toyota Supra built by Majestic Motorsports. If you’re up-to-date with your engine codes, you’d know that the “2JZ” is actually the same engine that lies under the bonnet of the Supra as standard. Considering that the S2000 is a much lighter car, the results are expectedly crazy.
It isn’t often that we get to fly to other countries to test-drive a car. So it was doubly interesting that our only fully-sponsored foreign trip of the year involves the 2012 Isuzu D-Max pickup truck. At the Bahrain Formula 1 circuit no less.
