The Geneva Auto Show is among the largest automotive events in the world, and like most other motor shows outside the Middle East, the 2010 edition has a distinct focus on ‘green’ cars. Production models include hybrid models of the Porsche Cayenne, Lexus CT 200h, Toyota Auris and more, while also on display are hybrid concepts such as the Ferrari 599 HY-KERS, Hyundai i-Flow and others. Regular production car launches also include the facelifted Toyota RAV-4, the redesigned Audi A8, the new Audi A1, the Citroen DS3 Racing and the Mini Countryman, among countless others. For what seemed like ages, there was no rain. But then when it finally rains, it pours. And we aren’t even talking about the stormy local weather. Nissan, Mazda and Jeep have joined the runaway recall bandwagon, while GM and Hyundai have managed to keep their noses clean in the UAE.
Suddenly, the rainy season is upon us, and as usual, no one has any idea what to do when it’s pouring hard in a storm. There isn’t much that needs to be known beyond some common sense.
Discovery Exhibition Organizers announced the launch of AutomodEx 2010 during a press conference today. The event will be held at the Dubai Autodrome from March 9 to 12, 2010 and aims to become UAE’s flagship high performance tuning exhibition. It combines “the elements of an exotic car and bike show, a radio controlled race tournament and the unveiling of the latest editions of some the world’s finest cars.”
Bad news hit several automakers over the past few days, not least of which is Toyota’s continued pounding due to recalls. Hyundai and Suzuki have also joined the recall craze, while Hummer suffers from bad news of a different kind.
This here is the facelifted 2011 Nissan Pathfinder for the European market. European Pathfinders are built in Spain and come with diesel engines. What this means for GCC-spec Pathfinders is unknown, as UAE-bound models are built in America.
So we finally get our hands on the all-new BMW Z4, if only because we now have friends within BMW. We suspect our tester, with 12000 km on the clock already, is really a 2009 rental model, but for the purposes of this preview we’ll refer to it as a 2010, to avoid appearing outdated. Remarkably, the car looks to be in perfect shape, which can’t be said for most test vehicles we get from Infiniti. Maybe the German firm is now concentrating on durability more than the Japanese themselves?
As is common knowledge by now, the 2010 Nissan Patrol was launched in Dubai on February 15, at an event on an offroad course within the Jebel Ali Shooting Club. Apparently the course will be used for customer test-drives once the all-new Patrol goes on sale. We have exclusive photos of the course, courtesy of our photographer Faisal Khatib.
Toyota and Honda are proceeding with recall campaigns in some GCC countries. Toyota is offering a free fix for affected Avalon and Sequoia owners, while Honda will do complimentary work on a handful of Odyssey minivans.
