Desert rally in Jordan to fight hunger

On 18 May, 120 private cars left Oberstaufen, Germany, on the start of the 5,000-km Allgaeu-Orient rally to raise awareness against the impact of hunger and poverty. While its nice to see a car-related event for a good cause, the kicker was that each of the cars cost less than 2000 Euros. That’s just under Dhs 10,000 each for a car! Cheap cars are awesome.

Dubai Civil Defence got a bunch of colourful Chevrolet and Hummer trucks from General Motors to use as quick response vehicles. I’m not sure what these trucks will be mistaken for on the road, what with so many colours adorning the bodywork of what are supposed to be serious fire-fighting vehicles.

AMG was originally an independent tuner company that was gradually acquired by Mercedes-Benz during the 1990s. Since I actually own a classic Mercedes-Benz mildly modded by the original independent AMG, I figured their history would be an interesting read.
